Abstract

Digital transformation has become a significant force shaping employment patterns and labour markets across the world. In Malaysia, the rapid adoption of digital technologies, automation, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, and digital platforms is transforming the nature of work and creating new opportunities as well as challenges for employees, employers, and policymakers. This study examines the impact of digital transformation on employment patterns in contemporary Malaysia, with particular attention to job creation, job displacement, changing skill requirements, remote and flexible work arrangements, and the growth of the gig economy. The study adopts a qualitative and descriptive approach based on secondary data from academic literature, government reports, and relevant policy documents. The findings indicate that digital transformation has contributed to the emergence of new technology-based occupations and increased demand for digital, technical, and analytical skills. At the same time, automation and technological advancement may reduce demand for certain routine and low-skilled jobs, creating concerns regarding unemployment and job insecurity.
